In France, if a criminal background check is to be performed prior to employment, it is your responsibility to obtain it, or you simply don’t get the job.
Fortunately, obtaining a copy of your criminal background report is free of charge and takes approximately 7 business days to receive in your mailbox.
Option:
- Send an email to cjn@justice.gouv.fr including an attachment of the CERFA N°10071*04 form, and a .GIF, .JPEG. or .PDF of the identity page of your passport and both sides of your current French identity card.
- Fill out the online request form here.
- Print and fill out the CERFA N° 10071*04 form and mail it, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to:
Républic Française
Ministére de la Justice
Direction des Affaires criminelles et des grâces
Casier Judiciaire National
44079 NANTES CEDEX 1
The CERFA N°10071*04 application can also be picked up at any prefecture of police.
If you’ve been a good little boy/girl, then what you receive in the mail should look like this:

If, however, you’ve managed to accumulate a criminal record over your lifetime, then you may wish to consider seeking employment elsewhere! In addition, your applying for the criminal background check will have alerted authorities as to your whereabouts.
